kharabaram raseed im shab k nigaar khuwahi amad,
(tonight there came a news that you, o beloved, would come)

sar e mann fidaa e rahe ki sawar khuwahi amad!
(be my head sacrificed to the road along which you'll come riding)

(all the gazales of the desert have put their heads in their hands)

ba umeed e aanki rozi ba shikaar khuwahi amad!
(in the hope that one day you'll come to hunt them)

kashishi k ishq daarad naguzaar adat badinsaa,
(the attraction of love won't leave you unmoved)

bajanaza garr na aye, bamazar khuwahi amad!
(should you not come to my funeral, you'll definitely come to my grave)

balabam raseed janam fa biyaa k zinda manam,
(my soul has come on my lips, come! so that i may remain alive)

pass azaaan k mann na maanum, bacha kar khuwahi amad!!
(after i am no longer, for what purpose will you come??)

Ba yak amadan rabudi dil o deen o jaan e Khusro,
(The heart, religion and soul of Khusro have gone upon your one arrival)

Chey shawad agar badeensan do seh baar khuwahi amad!!
(What would happen if you arrive like this twice or thrice)

"assi vekh k surat dilbarr di besurat nu pehchan gaye"

In the past few days i have seen some tweets on twitter saying that there is too much shirk in Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan qawwalies. So i thought that i should write this.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan once said in his interview that whatever he sings, he sings for Allah and His Prophet(s.a.w).
We as listeners can not say what intention Khan sahab had while singing his qawalies, while according to him its all based for Ishq e Haqeeqi (love of God).

If you listen to qawwalies with a mind that they are just for Ishq e Haqeeqi, you won't find any shirk in them. You just have to be mature enough to understand his qawwalies. His qawwalies are not about worldly love.

Secondly, a single verse of poetry can be interpreted or explained in various ways. for example.
this shair in *zulfon ne teri, le liay eemaan hazaron*

(parh jati hy jab ek nazar ap k rukh par,
parh leti hy meri ankhen quran hazaaron)

some will say this is also shirk, but it merely depends on the way of your understanding. to my understanding it means that "when you see your beloved's face you praise Allah Almighty that He made it so beautiful, without any defect."

Similarly in *yeh jo halka halka surror hy*
(na namaz ati hy mujhko na wuzu ata hy,
sajda kar leta hun jab samne tu ata hy)

according to my understanding in above verses, the poet refers that "he is so involved in the love of God that he offers sajda to God whenever He comes in his mind, irrespective of the place and scenario.."

and in *tum ek gorakh dhanda ho* the poet himself answers everything in the middle,
(aqal me jo ghirr gaya wo la inteha kyun kar huwa?
jo samjjh mein aa gaya phir wo Khuda kyun kar huwa?)
And in the end of qawali with "Allah Hu Allah Hu, La Shareek aa la Hu"

in *tumhe dil lagi bhool jani paregi*
(rukh se naqaab utha, k bari dair ho gayi mahol ko tilawat e Quran kiay huay)

same as the first mentioned verses.. "when you see your beloved's face you praise Allah Almighty that He made it so beautiful, without any defect."

if you people have read the book, Forty rules of love, the 21st rule of love says:
"when a true lover of God goes into a tavern, the tavern becomes his chamber of prayer, but when a wine bibber goes into the same chamber, it becomes his tavern. In everything we do, it is our hearts that makes the difference not the outer appearance. Sufis do not judge other people on how they look or who they are. when a sufi stares at someone, he keeps both eyes closed instead opens a third eye - the eye that sees the inner realm."

so it doesn't matter where a person is, whether in a mosque or a but-khana, if his hearts answers to one true God, Allah Almighty. as Allama Iqbal said in his Ghazal
:
(ashiq k lie yaksaan, kaaba ho k but-khana,
yeh jalwat e jananaan, wo khalwat e jananaan!)

and please do listen to (behadd ramzan dasda mera dholan mahi) a kalam written by baba BulleyShah, that will answer your questions.

"assi vekh k surat dilbarr di besurat nu pehchan gaye"
i hope ap log bhi pehchan jaen gy!!

so in my personal opinion it depends on the listener or the person himself what he understood. If person's heart is pure and only love one true God, he/she will find nothing but love of God in nusrat's qawalies.

agar bi nam shabe nagan

agar bi nam shabe nagaan manaa sultan e khu ban rah,
(if by chance, one of these nights, i catch a glimpse of the sultan of beauty)

sanam dar pa e mehkhanum, fidaa saazam dil o jaan rah!
(i will lay my head at His feet, sacrificing my heart and soul)

ba girde kaaba k gardum? k roo'ay yar e mann kaaba,
(why should i circle the Kaaba? when my Kaaba is my beloved's visage)

kunam tawwaf e meh khana, ba gonam paa e mastana!
(i circle around the tavern and kiss the feet of drunkards)

Salaam us par k jisne be kaso ki dastgeeri ki

salam us par k jisne be kaso ki dastgeeri ki,
salam us par k jisne badshahi me faqeeri ki!

salam us par k jisne fazal k moti bakhere hein,
salam us par buron ko jisne farmaya k mere hein!

salam us par k jisne bhookay pyaso ko kaba'en deen,
salam us par k jisne galiyaan sun kar duaa'en deen!

salam us par k sachai ki khatir dukh jo khata tha,
salam us par k bhooka reh kar auron ko jo khilata tha!

salam us par k jis k ghar mein chandi thi na sona tha,
salam us par k toota boriya jis ka bichona tha!

manam mehv e khayal e oo (Persian)

Manam mehv e khayal e oo, nami danam kuja raftam
(I am lost in the thoughts of my beloved, i know not where i am going)

Shudam ghark e wisaal e oo, nami danam kuja raftam!
(I find myself drowned in the moment of meeting my beloved & i know not where i am going)

Ghulam e ru ae oo boodam, aseer e mu ae oo boodam
(I am slave of beautious face, i am the prisoner of those long tresses)

Ghubar e koo e oo boodam, nami daanam kuja raftam!
(I am like the dust swirling around my beloved's street & i know not where i am going)

Ba aan ma aashna gashtam, ze jaan o dil fida gashtam
(I am known by my beloved, i have sacrificed my heart & my soul for love)

Fana gashtam fana gashtam, nami danam kuja raftam!
(I have been destroyed, i have been destroyed & i know not where i am going)

Qalandar bu ali hastam, banam e dost sar mastam
(I am Bu Ali Qalandar, my beloved's name has intoxicated me)

Dil andar ishq e oo bastam, nami danam kuja raftam!
(Inside my heart resides my love, i know not where i am going!)

dil usko jaanta hy bewafa pr pyaar karta hy)

(mere hi samne wo pehlu me dushman k bethe hein, haye majboorian)

(suna pehle tou mujhse qissa e ghum phir zubaan kaati,
hamesha k liey tehh karr k rakhh di dastaan meri)

(bus itni c doori yeh mein hu yeh manzil,
kahan aa k phootay hein paon k chalaay)

(zabt karta hu tou ghut'ta hy qafas mein mera damm,
aah karta hun tou sayyaad khata hota hy)

(tum hi ek kia sub zamana khafa hy,
na koi bhala hy na koi bura hy,
yeh mere muqadar ki sari khata hy,
yeh mana koi waqte rahat nahi hy,
magar tumse koi shikhayat nahi hy)

(jis jaga bazam me saqi ne bithaya hy humein,
hath phailaen tou jata nahi paimanay takk)

bakhia ae jaa k dil kyu na khulne lagay,
hijr ki rat phir wo bhi barsaat ki,

(din kata jis tarah kata lekin,
rat kat'ti nazar nahi ati)

(bin piya barsat me munh ko kaleja aye hy,
dil tarap uth'ta hy jab kali badalia chae hy)

(kisi ki shab e wasl sotay katay,
kisi ki shab e hijr rotay katay,
hamari yeh shab kesi shab hy,
k ya rab, na sotay katay na rotay katay)

ALLAH ALLAh majaz e haqeeqat numa,
wo bashar hy k taswwer hy zaat ki,

saqiaa saqiaa jam de jaam de,
